Good morning, sunshine. Would you all stand? We want to welcome you to Calvary Chapel this morning. And those of you who are joining us online in whatever social media form you're doing that in, we welcome you.

Father, we thank you for this beautiful day you've given us, Lord. As we come this Sunday morning, Lord, to worship in song and to study your word. And, Father, we want to come just as we are, real before you, open to the work of your Holy Spirit in our lives, a willingness to let go and praise you as we know you're worthy of our praise, Lord. You're a good God.

And we thank you, Lord Jesus. Every song we could ever sing. We could ever breathe.

We live for you, Jesus, the name above every other name.

Jesus, the only one who could ever stay. Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe. We live for you, Messiah, and show every song we could ever sing. Worthy as we could ever breathe.

We live for you, Jesus, the name above every other name. Jesus, the only one who could ever save. Worthy, we live for you. That is our prayer, Lord. Lead us in your way. Give us a heart for believers and the lost, Lord. To be used of you to serve in the way you'd have us to, Lord. That you would be glorified in all that we do, Lord.

Take these hands, lift them up. Take our time and take my time. That is, Lord, we sinners headed for, well, it's like Jesus talked about in the morning, buddy. Headed to hell. But because of you, Lord, and our giving our hearts to you and asking you to forgive our sins, we are people headed to glory. You take us home. We thank you for that, too, Lord. Oh, Lord, we do thank you for that.

Mercy never fails me. Oh, yes, Lord. And all my days I've been held in your hands. From the moment that I wake up until I lay my head, I will sing of the goodness of God. Oh, let's sing now, yeah. And all my life you have been faithful.

chapel i'm glad that you have joined us this morning a handful of things to take note of just a reminder that tonight at six o'clock is our intercessory prayer time down at the other end of the hallway so come join us for that also we've got some new home fellowships starting up this week this week is the first one we're going to be doing the intercessory prayer time first of the grief share group and then also the study at sarah mansky's house led by rick hawkins begins this week as well as the one at jared and alissa doyle's house so over in dexter so if you are interested please take a look at those and get plugged into one of them and then also ladies there's a women's breakfast coming up this saturday at steamy joe at eight

o'clock so come join the ladies for that should be a good time of fellowship and then we're going to get going next week we're going to go a little bit around some learning to fix and we're going to be doing some locations now at the church in sarah mansky where we're going to be looking at some amazing things that we're going to be learning some new things in terms of events that we're looking at and we're going to be studying the new events that we've been witness events that we'll be going to be taking part in and it's now going to be three weeks of scholarships and we'll be having six months for classes this summer and we're going to be doing a little bit of a training on what's going on in school so we could do a little bit of a short program

and one thing that is not in your bulletin is that we're needing to update kind of just like some random photos for the website so next week glenn bliss is going to be running around with a camera Feels like the only joke I can really make about that. So that's going to be happening, just so you're not kind of weirded out by that. And don't not come to church next week because of that. Don't be like, well, turns out next week I'm busy.

So anyway, that's what's going on. If you would make sure that your mobile device is silenced. And for our responsive reading this morning, we are going to be in Psalm 8. Psalm 8. Looking at the New American Standard for this part so that we sound the same. If you need a copy, there should be one in a row around you. And as you are turning to Psalm 8, if you are able, please stand in the honor of the reading of God's Word.

I will read the odd verses, if you will follow along with Pastor Allen, and the even verses. For the choir director, on the gettith, a Psalm of David. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth, who have displayed your splendor above the heavens. From the mouth of infants and nursing babes, you have established strength because of your adversaries to make the enemy and the revengeful cease.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your hands, the moon and the stars which you have ordained. What is man that you take thought of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than God, and you crown him with glory and majesty. You make him to rule over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet.

And read verse 9 with me. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. And Father, we do praise you for your majesty, for your glory, for your creation. The power and the sovereignty that you have.

Lord, we want to declare to everyone around us the truth of who you are. And so Father, as we spend some time in your word this morning, I just ask that you would move us. Move through this place. Move through this time by the power of your Holy Spirit. And Lord, would you draw us near to you and teach us what we need to learn. In Jesus' name. Amen. You may be seated.

If you would, open up in your Bibles to the book of Acts, chapter 3. Acts, chapter 3. Last week, we started into a two-week series on the mission and the vision. Talking about the mission and the vision of Calvary Chapel of Ark City. We were kind of between books. And just with the... The climate of the world right now, it felt like a really good time to go back into that again.

And so we even went into kind of how... Why it is that we meet as a church the way that we do, following that synagogue model. If you are interested, you can go to our website or to Facebook. And you can watch last week's study to learn just a little bit more about some of those sorts of things. But ultimately, we said that through the Great Commission, we realized that there are really two main purposes of the church.

The church in general, first of all, number one, is intended to build up the body of Christ. To build each other up. To see all of us become disciples through teaching and through encouragement. We've seen through the Great Commission. And then the second aspect of the purpose of the church is to reach out to the lost world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. And so we sort of centered that down to what it means for us as Calvary Chapel of Ark City.

What is our mission and what is our vision? And so we've simplified it into two different statements. Um... Calvary Chapel of Ark City, the mission and the vision is to reach in and to reach out. Reaching in is the building up of the body of Christ. And reaching out is reaching the lost world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. And so last week, we covered the first one of those.

We talked about reaching in and what that means, what that looks like. And of course, we used Acts 2, verse 42, which I'll read to you real quickly as our springboard to go off of. It says they, meaning the disciples of Jesus Christ, were continually devoting themselves, to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. And so we said those four things are what really should take priority in our church if we are to reach in the way that God has called for us to.

And so I'll quickly just buzz through those. Of course, the word of God, the apostles' doctrine is, of course, the word of God. And so we give great place to that, both through expositionary, lecture-style teaching, which is what we're sitting in now. Small groups. Group settings, which is what we talked about this morning, that we have a couple of new ones starting up.

And by the way, if you are not plugged into anything on the left-hand side of the bulletin that goes on throughout the week, I just want to really encourage you to get involved in one of those. Even if it's just coming to Wednesday night service, a little bit smaller of a setting where you can get to know people just a little bit better. It is so important to be involved with the body of Christ throughout the week to where you can mutually encourage each other. And be in the word.

So again, if you're not involved in one of those, please consider that. I know sometimes it's stepping outside of your comfort zone because it might only be a group of about maybe 10 to 15 people, maybe 5 to 10 people. But it's such a good way to really pour into each other and have iron sharpen iron. And so the word of God takes great precedence within the church and, of course, fellowship, getting to know each other, having that common bond.

I've noticed a few different people sitting in some different places, so good job. Actually, my family came to... Came to first service this morning, and when my daughter walked in, my oldest daughter, she goes, we can't sit there. Dad said we have to sit in a different spot. And so she made the rest of it. I was like, that's my girl right there. She listened.

That's a good thing, right? And so that time of fellowship, getting to know each other, having that koinonia, that common bond that we have. And then through the breaking of bread, which is not only the Lord's Supper, which we celebrated together last week, but it's just going to eat food together, right? Whether it be potlucks together or going to eat food.

Again, I talked to somebody Wednesday night. Apparently, La Fiesta owes me a finder's fee for all the number of people that were invited, someone to go to lunch with them after church last Sunday. So, because they said, I think half the place was Calvary Chapel, because everybody took you literally and invited a friend to lunch. That's a beautiful thing. And I will be seeing them later about that.

And so there's that breaking of bread. And then, of course, the prayer. Prayer together as the body. Prayer in corporate ways in those small group settings where you're seeking the Lord together and hopefully encouraging each other. Again, it was... Really cool to see how a good number of people joined Flocknote this week. I get those alerts like, hey, so-and-so just joined the prayer request group.

And I love that because you're seeing some of those things come through and it's really cool. As we are hopefully in those four ways reaching in and building up the body of Christ. But again, while building up the body is the first purpose of the church, the second purpose of the church is to reach out to the lost world around us. And that's what we're going to talk about this morning is reaching out.

And we're going to use Acts chapter 3. It's kind of a springboard here to talk about it. It's a little bit of a lengthy section of scripture that I'm going to read to you this morning, but it's a really cool story. But the early church found themselves in a position where they could potentially go wrong. You see, we have to be reminded on a consistent basis that the church is not a building that we go to.

Oh, this is the church building because it's where the church meets. And we refer to it as the church. But at the end of the day, the church is not a building. The church is not a system. The church is not an organization. The church is people. You are the church. And so we have to remember that both in the aspect of reaching in and in the aspect of reaching out.

And so the early church, the disciples, after Peter preached that message that we talked about last week on the day of Pentecost, 3,000 people were added to the church. And so they went from a church, a group of maybe a couple hundred people to a church of over 3,000. And it would have been really easy for them to be like, okay, we just got to stop right here. We just got to stop right here for a minute and just, you know, let's just, let's keep ourselves together.

Let's keep ourselves tight. We just got to, let's just, let's just kind of close in for just a little bit until we get a handle on what we're doing. But that wasn't what they did. But unfortunately, that's what too many churches do is they get to the place where it's like, okay, we have a congregation. Now our job is to turn inward and only build each other up and stay away from all of the worldly things around us.

And that's not what God has intended for us. Because we have to get out amongst the world if we are ever to be the light of Jesus. It's really hard to preach the gospel to the same people that got saved three weeks ago. Can we agree with that? It's really hard to be witnesses to the people that are trying to be witnesses to you. So we've got to get outside of the four walls of the church and do what needs to be done.

And that's exactly what these men do in a very practical sort of way. And so starting in Acts chapter 3 verse 1, it says this. Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. And a man who had been lame. And a man from his mother's womb was being carried along. Whom they used to set down every day at the gate of the temple, which is called beautiful.

In order to beg alms of those who were entering the temple. When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking to receive alms. But Peter, along with John, fixed his gaze on him and said, look at us. And he began to give them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, I do not possess silver and gold. But what I do.

Have I give to you the name of Jesus Christ, the Nazarene walk and seizing him by the right hand. He raised him up and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened with a leap. He stood upright and began to walk. He entered the temple with them walking and leaping, praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God. And they were taking note of him as being the one who used to sit at the beautiful gate of the temple to beg alms.

And they were filled with wonder. And. Amazement at what had happened while he was clinging to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the so-called portico of Solomon, full of amazement. But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people, men of Israel, why are you amazed at this? Or why do you gaze at us if by as if by our own power or piety, we had made him walk the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers has glorified his service.

Jesus, the one whom you delivered and disowned in the presence of Pilate when he had decided to release him. But you disowned the holy and righteous one and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, but put to death the prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses. And on the basis of faith in his name, it is in the name of Jesus, which is strengthened this man whom you see and know and the faith which comes through. And on the basis of faith in his name, it is in the name of Jesus, which is strengthened this man whom you see and know and the faith which comes through.

And on the basis of faith in his name, it is in the name of Jesus, which is strengthened this man whom you see and know and the faith which comes through. Has given him this perfect health and the presence of you all. And now brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also. But the things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of the holy prophets that Christ would suffer, he has thus fulfilled.

Therefore, repent and return so that your sins may be wiped away in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence. Of the Lord. It's a great story. It's a fantastic story. So let's talk about this story for just a few minutes and then we'll bring some points of application to it. So again, Peter and John, they've just experienced this amazing miracle, if you will, that took place on the day of Pentecost with the coming of the Holy Spirit.

3,000 people getting saved. But they didn't stop. They started pouring into those disciples through the word and through fellowship, the breaking of bread and prayer. And as they were pouring into those disciples, they continued living their lives. As usual, making themselves available constantly. And so they went to the temple at the ninth hour or the hour of prayer.

Because even though Jesus had come and dealt with the sacrificial system, in their mind, as good Jewish boys, they would still go to the temple for this time of prayer. The ninth hour is probably about three in the afternoon. And so they came around three in the afternoon so that they could have their typical daily prayer time. And as they're going there, there's a man laying there who had been lame from the time that he was born.

Now, we should think about something. In the next chapter, in chapter four, we learned that this guy was over 40 years old. Meaning that he had probably been laying in that exact same place for a long time. Meaning that Jesus, at one point in time, had probably walked by this exact same guy. And you should ask yourself a question. Why didn't Jesus heal this man?

Because it wasn't time yet. And I think that that's a really important word for someone in here. To hear this morning. Is that Jesus didn't heal him because it wasn't time yet. Jesus probably would have walked by this exact same guy six months before when he was there for the Passover festival. Because this guy was in the same place all the time. Begging for alms.

He probably would have walked by him around that exact same time. And you can imagine Jesus walking by him thinking, not yet. It's almost time. It's almost time for me to do a work in your life. And if you've been waiting. Again, I don't know who this is for. But if you've been waiting for God. To do something in your life. And you're like, why hasn't he done it yet?

Why hasn't God dealt with this yet? I just want you to know. He wants you to know this morning. It's just not time yet. But just keep waiting. Because God's going to take care of it. And so, they walk by this guy. And he goes, please, can you give me some money? And I love Peter's response. He's like, man, I ain't got no cash. Right? Like, Peter was broke. John was broke.

I love that the disciples were broke. They're like, we need some cash. He's like, I need some cash. They're like, same, bro. Right? Like, I can appreciate that. Because I can understand where they're coming from. And so, Peter looks at him. And on this particular time, he didn't just walk by. They'd probably seen this guy lots of times before. But this particular time, he looked at him.

He's like, you know what? I don't have any money. Here's what I can do for you. In the name of Jesus, rise and walk. He reaches down. He grabs him by the hand. He lifts him up. And as he lifts him up, this guy's legs are strengthened. And he can walk. Now, again, I would like to point. Now, I hope that there's DVR in heaven. Right? Like, I was just talking to a group of kids about this the other day.

Like, we want to see some replays. Right? We want to see some things in slow-mo. I want to see how some of these things took place. And this is one of the things that I want to see. Because I have questions. I hope you have questions every time you read the Bible. But I have questions. Number one, how stressed was Peter right now? Right? Because he was just like, I'm going to heal this guy.

I'm going to heal this guy. I'm going to heal this guy. Jesus is going to heal this guy. But he's going to use me to heal this guy. Did I do this right? Am I saying this right? Is this a bad step on my part? Is this like the water thing again? Am I going to screw this whole thing up? I think Peter was probably a little nervous at this point in time. And he has to do something really bold.

He says, in the name of Jesus, rise up and walk. Well, at that point in time, you've got to put your money where your mouth is. Right? Hopefully, God comes through. I wonder if on the DVR we can see Peter's heart pounding out of his chest at this point in time. It's like, what? Yep, I know how he feels. Peter reaches down, lifts him up. Second question I have is, how big of a step of faith was it for this guy to do that?

How hard was it for him to reach out his hand and allow Peter to lift him up in order to have his legs healed? Because for all he knows, this is just another dude. And then I want to know what the guy's legs looked like after he got healed. Because you know that if somebody sits that long and their legs don't work, there ain't no muscles going on there. Right?

Like, when he popped up, did his legs look like Saquon Barkley's? He's just like, right? He's just got these, like, just iron legs. I don't think he became a bodybuilder at that time. But wouldn't that be epic? I think if he did, right? He just pops up. He's like, ah. Like, everybody's like, whoa. No wonder they were so amazed. And he's walking and leaping and praising God, dunking a basketball, which they didn't have then.

Anyway, I have questions about this. Like, how did this look? But he raises him up, and everybody's amazed. Peter's amazed. I think Peter was as shocked as anybody. This guy's amazed. He's walking and leaping and praising God. He's holding on to this guy. And everybody's like, oh, my gosh. I love in the Greek in verse 10, when it says that they were filled with wonder and amazement,

there's a Greek translation of that. There's a Greek translation that says they were flabbergasted. And sidebar, a word we don't use enough. Can we all agree with that? We should be using the word flabbergasted with everything going on in the government right now. How do we not use the word flabbergasted more? But anyway, so they're flabbergasted by what takes place.

And they start to look at Peter. And Peter has a temptation right now. Will I take the credit for myself? But he doesn't. He says, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Why is everybody all amazed right now? As if somehow we did this. You know who did this? Jesus. Jesus did this. You know who Jesus is? Do you remember him? He's the guy that you all rejected. He's the guy that you all disowned.

He's the guy that you all betrayed. Even when Pilate was ready to set him free, you crucified him. Just like we crucified him. He said, so this is what you need to do. You need to repent and return. So the times of refreshing can come from the presence of the Lord. Now, in this part of the story, we don't see the results. But if we were to read chapter 4, we would see that 5,000 were added to the church that day.

5,000 people were added to the church this day. Because Peter and John decided to reach out. And it's an amazing story. Again, I really want to make you sing this song. I do this every time I teach this story. I want you to sing it with me. But we won't because none of you will come back next week. Not only did I make you sing a song this week. But there's a camera person here.

And none of you will be back. And I don't want to take that chance. So there's five things that I think that we learn from this story about reaching out. Five principles for reaching out that I think are really important for us to pay attention to. And so as we go through these, I'll point out how not only are these important for us, but they all build upon each other.

Five things that we need to know. Number one, if we are to be a people that reach out like Peter and John did, like the early church did. Number one, you need to have a lifestyle. Of prayer. You need to have a lifestyle of prayer. You're like, Ryan, this is like the third time you've taught on prayer in a month. I know. It's almost like it's a really important thing.

Because I didn't do it on purpose. But this is the lifestyle that these guys lived. Look at verse one. Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. The construction of the sentence indicates to us that this is what they did all the time. This was their lifestyle. Their lifestyle was a lifestyle of prayer. Where they were constantly seeking the Lord.

Where they were constantly taking these things to the Lord and asking God to change their heart. Why is it important to have a lifestyle of prayer if we are to be a people who reach out? I'm glad you asked that question. Too many of us view prayer the wrong way. Too many of us view prayer as our way of getting God to accomplish our will on earth. That's why we oftentimes approach it in the wrong sort of way.

It's because we're like, Lord, do this here. That's not the purpose of prayer. The purpose of prayer. prayer is to get God to accomplish his will on earth and to line our hearts up with what that is. I get really nervous when people start saying, I told God you will do this, or they start making demands of God and getting really, and I hear people do this all the time. It's like the whole,

we can speak things into existence group of people that, that hold onto that kind of power. And you're like, I don't, we don't have that kind of power kids. That's just all that there is to it. We don't accomplish our will on earth. We accomplish God's will on earth. That's why prayer should include the phrase, not my will, but your will be done. What does that have to do

with reaching out? Well, what is, what do we see in scripture about what God's desire, what God's will is? Well, we're told that it's his desire that none should perish, but that all should come to everlasting life. Now I'm going to couch that with a statement because there is a false doctrine going around right now. And it's gone around for a long time. And it's gone around for a long time.

It's gone around for years, but it's come back again. Somebody sent me a reel this week and said, can you believe this? And it was this guy talking about the fact that a loving God would never send anyone to hell. That, that hell can't really exist because God will just keep loving us, keep loving us, keep loving us to where no one will go to hell. Friends, Jesus talked about hell

more than anybody else in the Bible. He referred to hell as the place where those who do not believe will go, where those who have not repented will go. And he refers to it as an eternal place. Jesus' words, not mine. It's a place where the flame is not quenched and the worm never dies. While it's God's desire that all should, should be saved in that, or that none should perish,

but that all should come to eternal life. It doesn't mean that everybody is going to get saved because there will be someone who stubbornly holds onto their pride and their sin and will refuse to come to Jesus. However, we do know that God's desire to save us is not going to come to us. His desire is to see people come to salvation. We're told in the book of Ezekiel that judgment is

God's strange work, that his default is always mercy. And so if there's any chance to show mercy, he will show mercy. We see from the example of Jesus that he loved us so much that he took on the form of a man and came down and dwelt among us so that we could be saved, so that he could bear the punishment that rightly belongs to us. So a lifestyle of prayer gets my heart in line with the will of God, which is to save us. And so we see that God's desire to save us is not going to

see people come to salvation in Christ. My heart gets lined up with a desire to reach out to people. And that's why we have to have this lifestyle of prayer, because we have to get our hearts in line with the will of God. We have to get our hearts in line with what God wants to do. And it will always start with you praying for people around you. Here's what I think you should

start by doing. Everybody in here, I can't imagine this being the case. Not being the case. Everybody in here knows somebody that doesn't know Jesus. Each of you do. Some of you know a lot of people that don't know Jesus, and you love them dearly. Start by praying for them. Start by praying that God would move in their heart on a consistent basis, that God would set them free from their addictions, that God would set them free from

their pride and self-righteousness, that God would bring them to a place of understanding the salvation that comes through Jesus Christ. Start there, but don't end there. Then start to pray for the people that you don't like. Yep, that's right. Start praying for your enemies. Do you know that Jesus told us to do that? That we should pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you? You should start

praying for those people, that they would come to faith in Jesus Christ, that they would come to a place where they would truly understand Jesus, because the gospel redeems people. But it will start with it changing your heart. Start praying for those people and get your heart lined up with God's will. Then start praying for those people that you don't like. Start praying for

the people in power, that they would get lined up with God's will. Even the people I don't like. Yes, even the people you don't like. Pray for them too, because you will find that it's impossible to hate somebody that you're praying for. It's impossible to do that. And as you pray, it will align your heart with God's will. So we must live a lifestyle of prayer. Number two, you have to have

a love for people. A love for people. Notice what it says in verse four. But Peter, along with John, fixed his gaze on him and said, look at us. You know why he took time to look at him and fixed his gaze on him? Because he loved him. Because he had a love for people. Too many people in the church say, you know, I just really don't like people that much. Well, man, is it time for you to live a lifestyle of prayer so that you can begin to love people?

Because do you realize that the church is made up of, wait for it, people. And you're one of them. And we are supposed to have a love for people. You should care about the people that are around you. You should care about the people that are not around you. You should start to understand the reality of heaven and the reality of hell and realize the reality of both of those things in

the lives of the people around you. Begin to care about who they are and about where they're going to spend their eternity. But it will not happen. It will not happen. It will not happen. It will not happen if you don't have a lifestyle of prayer. What was the very last thing that Jesus told his disciples, the very last commandment that he gave to them? He said, a new commandment I give to you,

that you would love each other as I have loved you. By this, all men will know that you are my disciples. Now, there's an entire study that I could teach about what that really looks like, because love has been robbed in this culture today. Love means affirmation. Love means acceptance. Love means you do whatever you want to do, and I will completely accept

however you want to live your lifestyle. That's not love. Because if you look at the way Jesus loved, Jesus loved by telling people the truth. You ever notice that? Jesus confronted sin. Jesus showed compassion, but he always confronted sin, and he always told the truth. If you don't believe me, ask the woman at the well. If you don't believe me, ask the woman that was caught in adultery.

If you don't believe me, ask Peter when Jesus confronted him with his sin. Jesus was always confronting sin, but he was also always showing grace, and it was all because he loved people so much. After all, God demonstrated his own love for us, and that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. And that same love, we're told in the book of Romans, should be shed abroad in our heart to the people that are around us. You see, Peter and John could help this guy

out, because they loved him when they saw him, and they saw someone in need, and they began together. Care. Do you care about people? Do you care about the people that are around you? Because that's what God is calling us to do if we are to reach out the way that he wants us to reach out. Number three, we are to have an attitude of availability. An attitude of availability. Again,

I would like to point out something for you. Peter and John were doing what when they came across this guy? They were on their way to prayer. They were on their way to a prayer meeting. If you will, they were on their way to an appointment, something that they had to get to. And on their way, they were what? They were interrupted by someone. But they didn't let

that interruption, they didn't say, no, no, we've got things to do. We can't be interrupted with you right now. No, they allowed that interruption to do what it needed to do. John Corson in his commentary says this, interruptions are simply divine inspirations. Interruptions are simply divine inspirations. Because the greatest interruptions that you have are your greatest moments for ministry. They're your greatest moments to reach out. We live in

a culture right now that always has to get somewhere. Have you noticed that? You've always got to get somewhere and you've got to get there fast. Even if it's just getting home to be on the couch, you've just got to get there, right? And you've got to get there fast. And nothing can get in your way. You've got to make it happen. You've got to move. You've got to be places.

And we shouldn't be that way as people. We should be people that are willing to slow down. Next time you're at the store, I want you to do something. I want you to walk through and I want you to look people in the eye sometimes. Every now and then they'll try to sell you pot because it happens to me all the time. But you should just look people in the eye sometimes. And when you

look them in the eye, see if there's something that needs addressed. Because you would be amazed at how many people are just waiting for someone to talk to them. They're just waiting for someone to say a little bit of love. And they need you to be available to do that. You see, these guys weren't doing anything special. They weren't going on a missions trip. They weren't planning to go teach

a study somewhere. They weren't planning to go do anything. They were just going to do what they needed to do. Someone was there and they were willing to set aside their time. Because that speaks to people. That ministers to people. You see, we've got to say, my time is not my own. My time belongs to the Lord. You don't understand. I'm going to be late. They're going to be mad.

Trust me. I make people mad all the time. You learn to get used to it. You learn to just adjust to it a little bit. Because it's life. And yeah, you might be a little bit late. Yeah, you might make somebody mad. But isn't this an important thing to do? What's right in front of you right now? Isn't whoever's in front of you that is in need a really important thing to do? Now listen, my wife has come to know that if she sends me to

the store, I'm not coming back for a while. Right? Because that's just all that there is to it. Every now and then I got to put my head down and I got to do what I got to do. But even then, I feel, I'm like, no, but what if somebody needs to talk to me? What if I need to minister to somebody? Some of your greatest moments come in the most unbelievable times. Many of you know that one of

my favorite places to go is the local coffee shop here in town, not only because I have a caffeine addiction, but also because that becomes a counseling office for me. I set up at a little table in the front room of the Steamy Joe coffee shop and I start studying. And as I study there, inevitably the same thing happens all the time. I start studying. I start studying. I start studying.

Somebody comes up and says, hey, Pastor Ryan, can I ask you a question? And I say, sure. And so they sit down and we talk for maybe 20, 30 minutes about whatever their question was. Or somebody says, hey, can you pray for me about something? Because I've got this going on. Or the people behind the counter that know that I'm a pastor, every now and then I'll hear one of them say,

well, that guy's a pastor. You could ask him. And it becomes a place where I minister to people. And I went there with my wife one time and same thing happened. It was just her and I, we were planning some things and things along those lines. And we're sitting there and that kept happening to me. And she goes, how on earth do you get any studying done here? And I said, well,

I get done what I need to get done, you know, because sometimes what I need to do is talk to somebody. And that's one of my greatest places of ministry. Because I don't know if you realize this or not, but if somebody's got a need, they don't think to themselves, I should go to church and talk to somebody about this right now. Listen, people in the world, they don't like to come to church. This is an intimidating place for them. This is a scary place for them. This is a scary place for them.

This is a scary place to show up because they don't know how they're going to be treated or whether or not they're going to be judged here. But if you encounter them out in the world, if you encounter them at the coffee shop or the grocery store or the McDonald's or you name the place, you're unintimidating to them at that point in time because you're just another person. And now you've got this attitude of availability to where all the things that take place aren't interruptions in your life. They're divine inspirations. They're moments for you to serve. But I'm here to tell you right

now, you will not be able to do that. You will not be able to do that. You will not be able to do that. You will not have an attitude of availability if, number one, you don't live a lifestyle of prayer. If, number two, you don't have a love for people. That won't happen in your life. And so those things all build upon each other. And so as you are living this lifestyle of prayer where

you're praying, Lord, line up my heart with your will. Lord, bring these people to salvation. Lord, I'm praying for our community. I'm praying for our state. I'm praying for our nation. Then God will begin to work a love in your heart for those people. And as that love in your heart starts to take place for those people, pretty soon you're going to start looking at all of the lonely people and saying, maybe I could do something. Maybe I could

reach out. Maybe I am the one that God wants to use today. And that brings me to number four, a willingness to serve. A willingness to serve. Again, look at verses six and seven. It says, You see, Peter and John were willing to get their hands a little bit dirty. They were willing to get themselves involved in the life of someone, and they were willing to serve them. Peter said,

I would love to help you out. Physically, I can't do what you need me to do. Monetarily, I can't do, what you need me to do. But I've got something I can offer you. Because you see, they were available and they loved this guy, so they took the time to serve him. And Peter said, why don't I just help you stand up? And God did a miraculous thing in his life. Well, God wants to do the exact same

thing with you, but you've got to have a willingness to serve the people that are around you. That means that sometimes you've got to be willing to just do the basic things. If you want to talk to somebody about Jesus, start by helping them load their groceries into their car. Start by being the one who takes the cart back up to the front. Man, especially if you see some mom

out there. Listen, I am so thankful for anybody that would ever come along and help out my wife when she was out with just her and the kids, especially when they were tiny and everybody's in car seats and all these kinds of things. If you see some mom out there struggling with her three kids and she's trying to get the cart back in and make sure the car doesn't get stolen with the kids in it, and you take the cart in for her, that means everything in the world to her. And now you have an open opportunity, perhaps, to minister to God.

Because you just broke down all of the walls with the fact that you were willing to serve. Maybe you've got a neighbor that's just an absolute, like, turd nugget, right? And they're just not a nice human being. And they don't want to know anything about your Jesus. They don't want to know anything about your church. They don't want to know anything about you. Quite frankly,

if they had the money, they'd live out on 100 acres somewhere where nobody could get near them and they would only come to town to get what they needed. And ever since grocery ordering, they might not even do that. And that's the kind of person they are. And you're like, you don't know what my neighbor's like. Maybe I do. You don't know what my neighbor's like. You're right, I don't.

But I'll tell you how to break down the walls with them. Start by cleaning out their guttering. Saying, hey, can I clean out your guttering for you? I know that that's a little bit of a difficult task as you get a little bit older, so let me help you out with that. Can I mow your yard for you? Shovel your driveway for you? I remember at one point in time, I was having to go into work really early,

and Aaron was home with the girls. And one of the neighborhood guys just came over. He was a teacher, so he was out of school because it was a snow day and I'd had to go to work early that day. He just came over and shoveled the driveway. And I came home and I was like, who did this? It was awesome to come home and not have to deal with that. She's like, well, it was him. So I went

over and I shook his hand. I'm like, man, that means the world to me. Thank you so much. He could have talked to me about anything in the world he wanted to as long as he wanted to at that point in time, because he did something to serve me. And all walls are broken down at that point in time. Because he did something to serve me. And all walls are broken down at that point in time.

That's what that willingness to serve does for somebody. Maybe for you, a willingness to serve means what you're going to do is you're going to buy somebody's lunch today. Maybe you're going to go to the McDonald's or the Wendy's or something like that. And somebody's going to be standing there and you're like, you know what? I just want to buy their lunch for them. I just want to bless

them today. And that's a willingness to serve. And they come up to pay and they're like, well, this guy's got you. So whatever you, he said, whatever you guys want, you get. And they're like, oh my gosh, why would you do that? Because I just want you to know about the love of Jesus. Can I talk to you about it for a few minutes? What are they going to say? No, you just bought

their lunch, right? I mean, come on, what are they going to do? Those things break down walls. That willingness to serve automatically shows somebody just how much you care about them. And if they think you care that much, then they're going to care about the Jesus that you're going to talk to them about. It won't always work out, but I'm going to say 95% of the time, someone's going

to be willing to listen to what you have to say. And so we need to have this willingness to serve. But again, I don't have a heart to serve. I don't have a heart to serve. I don't have a heart to serve. Anybody, if it doesn't start off with a lifestyle of prayer, which leads me to a love for people and an attitude, lost my point there, an attitude of availability, and then a willingness to serve.

Brothers and sisters, God wants to use you in powerful ways. You may not know that. And they usually happen in much smaller ways than you think. We all think you got to go off somewhere on a missions trip. Don't get me wrong. Those are great to do, but you can just go down the street and find somebody to serve. And that leads me to number five. Take advantage of the open doors. Take advantage of the open doors.

That's what Peter did. A whole big group of people gathered around him, and they were flabbergasted at what they saw. And as this group gathers around him, Peter could have given in to the temptation of going, oh man, I don't want to preach the gospel to these people. What if some of them disagree with me? What if some of them ask questions that I can't answer? What if some of them hate me?

What about any of these things? I don't think I can do this. And he could have just walked away and said, hey, I'm really glad you can walk, man. We'll see you guys later. And everybody was like, how did it happen? And he could have just walked off like nothing ever happened. But he didn't do that. He took advantage of the open door. And the open door presented a chance for him to preach

the gospel. And that's exactly what he did. You see, he preached the most basic gospel message ever. He presented their sin. He gave them the option of salvation. And then he gave them the opportunity to respond. He said, you all sinned by crucifying Jesus. Jesus still loves you. All you need to do is repent. And 5,000 people came to Christ that day, all because he took advantage

of the open door. There's open doors around you all the time, and we don't always take advantage of them. There's open doors that will come about when you take that time to love someone or serve someone, or when they come to you with that question. There's an open door, and you'll have a choice to make. Will I walk through the open door and now declare to them the truth that they've been seeking, or will I shrink back and not do anything about it? You

have to make that decision. Are you going to walk through the open door? I'll tell you two different stories about myself, one when I did and one when I did not. I'll start with the one where I did not. We used to, when I was in Bible college, we used to go street witnessing down in Oceanside, California. And Oceanside, the part we would go to was a little bit rough.

It was right outside of Oceanside, and so there's all these Marines there all the time. And so one place where we'd go was kind of a downtown area. And in this downtown area, inevitably, you'd get surrounded by people every time you started talking. And so I wasn't very good at street witnessing. It made me incredibly nervous, but I just kind of got outside my bubble the best

I could with it. And I used this incredibly impactful line when I would come up to people. I would hand them a track and say, have you gotten one of these? That was my line right there. And, you know, open doors. So I handed it and said, have you gotten one of these? And he said, what is it? And I said, well, it's about the gospel. It's about Jesus. And he said, no,

what's it about? And all of a sudden, all these people start gathering around, and I absolutely freaked out. I probably had 10 people around me that were ready to hear what I had to say. And I freaked out, and I said, well, here's these. I hope you guys can read them. And I walked away. And I remember thinking, what did I do? But I got nervous. I was intimidated. These are guys that

ask me hard questions, or they might not like what I'm saying, and all these kinds of things. And to this day, I think about this. I'm like, man, I missed an open door, an open door to give out the gospel of Jesus Christ. I could have maybe led some of those people to the Lord, and none of them heard anything because I got scared, and I walked away and didn't go through the open door. There was one time when I did walk through the open door. Again, in Oceanside

Street Witnessing, and I hand the track to this guy down by the bus station. There was a bus station where all the Marines would get on there, and they would take the bus down to Tijuana and do things their moms and Jesus didn't approve of. And so they were usually a pretty ripe audience of people to talk to, and sometimes for good, sometimes not for good. And so this one guy standing there, and he's smoking a cigarette. Just absolute James Dean sort of a guy, right?

Just standing there smoking a cigarette, and I used my tried and true line of, have you gotten one of these yet? And he said, no, what is it? And I said, well, can I tell you about it? He said, sure. And so I walked him through the track, which kind of led you all the way through the salvation message, sin, Jesus, salvation, gave you the option to receive the Lord at the end.

And I said, would you like to receive Jesus? And he took a puff of his cigarette, and he said, absolutely would. I actually had been looking for something like this. I said, really? And I tried for five minutes to talk him out of it, because it's not supposed to be that easy. I'm like, what the heck? Now you realize, this is a commitment, right? This isn't just fire insurance. This is a real commitment.

He's like, no, I understand. I absolutely want to do this. I said, well, would you like me to lead you in prayer? And he said, yeah. And so he snuffed out his cigarette, and we prayed together, and he received Jesus that day, because I walked through an open door. Listen, I'm as scared as anybody in those moments, right? Because you don't know how people are going to

respond. But when people know that you care, they're usually willing to listen to what you're going to say. And taking time to reach out to somebody tells them that you care. And they're willing to hear about the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. And that's what we're called to do as believers in Jesus Christ. And that's what Peter does. 5,000 people get saved. I'm not saying

every time you go out, 5,000 people get saved. It's not that big of a town, right? Like at some point in time, you go out three times, the whole ding-dong town's saved, right? But you might get one or two of them. You might get a handful of them. Who knows what God wants to do? But brothers and sisters, as the church, we're to reach out. And if we're to reach out, it will

require a lifestyle of prayer. It will require love for people, an attitude of availability, a willingness to serve, and an ability to walk through the open doors. So how does that work for us as a church? Well, I see it kind of in three different ways. And we'll work in, out with this, okay? First of all, you as individuals. You as individuals can go out and begin to do this

today, right? And then you can go out and begin to do this at home. And we'll get you a New Year's dinner. And we'll get you a big哦 moment in your life and this year's always going to be a very successful, more总ate in your life. And we're going to be talking about this. So today, we're going to be discussing about someone who's probably done all kinds of things in your life or in your own life. And if you're

right, who's doing all this stuff? What do you want to know about that? If you want to know about that, well, let's get to it. I want to talk about a guy named Jack Smith. The guy that founded Calvary Chapel. You know, I was listening to him not long ago. He didn't like to be called the founder of Calvary to greet Chuck when he comes here, then everybody will just give the one-way symbol. And so that's

what he did. Every time he came and spoke, he gave the, everybody put one finger in the air and he would say, ah, glorious, in like the only way that Chuck Smith can. And so, and so this, he would refer to himself as the head servant of Calvary Chapel. But what he always said was, healthy sheep make other healthy sheep. And so that's what you can do. You can go out and make other healthy

sheep. And you do that by going out into, as just individuals or families, and going out and just reaching the people around you. I am amazed at what God has been doing here with, with individuals just asking their friends to come to church. And then your friends come to church and sometimes they get saved and, and, and they get baptized. And this is why we baptized 16 people a few weeks

ago, because you started inviting people to church. And that made some other healthy sheep. And as I teach you the word and say, this is what the word says, and this is what God wants us to do with the word. Then you take that truth to other people. Then they go, hey, I want some of that too. And they start coming to church and find themselves getting saved and getting baptized. And then they become disciple makers at the same time. It's a,

it's a cycle that you go through. I told first service, I said, I love all these, all these kids we got coming right now. And you know how half the teenagers that we have here started coming is because their friend invited them. I see kids, I'm like, well, how'd you end up here? Well, she invited me. Well, how'd you end up here? Well, she invited me. And pretty soon I'm working down the line of this one invited this one who

invited this one who invited this one who invited this one. And I'm like, huh, that's kind of how it's supposed to work. That's kind of what you're supposed to do, right? I was talking to a dad of a young lady that's been coming here sometime or for a little while now. And I said, hey, your daughter's been coming to my church. He goes, I know she's been a completely

different person. And I was like, oh, that's what I'm talking about right there. That's what Jesus does. That's healthy sheep making other healthy sheep. So that's how you reach out. But then there's like group outreach, right? So like one of the things we're trying to do with these small groups that are getting started is that these small groups will then reach out as

a group and they will plan outreaches together. I know one of them planned a thing, I think it was back in the spring. Was it back in the spring that y'all did the hot dog thing here? Yeah. Where they just, they came out and grilled up a bunch of hot dogs and anybody from the neighborhood that wanted to come by could come by and eat a hot dog and they'd pray with them.

We've had a couple of people come visit us quite a few times from that whole thing. And that's kind of what we want to see happen with small groups is that the small groups will become people who do this outreach as well. Not necessarily in huge ways, but just, hey, let's serve people and then let's talk to them about Jesus at the same time. One of the other ways small groups reach out is through our missions trips. You know, we've got a big group that goes

down to Dallas to work with the Operation Christmas Child Packing Center down there. That's outreach. We've got a group that went to Guatemala back in the late spring, early summer. That's outreach. And that's kind of small group outreach. But then as a church, hopefully we're going to start planning more outreaches where we can, as a church, really reach out to the community.

I've been talking to a guy and he goes, what's your church doing to reach out? And I'm like, you know what? We need to be praying about more of that. We need to pray more about what it looks like for us as a church to reach out to the community that's around us. But that's what it looks like. It involves those principles, but it also involves all of you. And so as we wrap up

this morning, we're going to be praying about what it looks like for us as a church to reach out to the community. So what does it mean to live this out? Well, I think there's three things we need to pay attention to when it comes to living this out. One of them is I want to remind you that the church is made up of people. The church is made up of people. It's not a building. It's not an

organization. It's not a system. It's people. It's people who invest in the lives of each other and then people who invest in the lives of the people that are around them. Because that's who we are as the church. And there is no unnamed, no nameless, faceless organization that just does outreach. Outreach is you. That's how we get the word out about Jesus. And so the church is people. And we want to reach people with the gospel of

Jesus Christ. The second thing I would tell you is that you should pray to catch the vision and the mission. Pray that God would really give you the same vision. Listen, I can give you all the studies in the world about what the vision looks like, about what we want to see happen here at Calvary Chapel, about the direction that we want to go. But I want to tell you that the church is

not just a place to go. But what I'd rather do is now you start praying, Lord, what does it look like to build up the body of Christ and to reach out to the world? Because then it will be God that does the work in your heart, not me that's trying to do the work in your heart. So pray. Pray that God would give you that vision. Pray that God would minister that mission to you so that you

can take this and now move out in the world that is around us. And then number three, obediently live. It out. Obediently live it out. Friends, I don't know if you realize this or not, but God's on the move in this area. And I believe it wholeheartedly. I'm watching it happen and I get geeked up every time I see it. And I share this stuff with you because it's what I'm involved in. And so I want

you to know what I'm involved in. But we had our first before school devotion out in Dexter this week with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. We had 15 to 20 kids there and I got to give them the gospel. I talked to them just about. And I'm like, I'm going to give them the gospel. I'm going to give them the gospel. And I'm going to give them the gospel. And I'm going to give them the gospel. And I'm going to give them the gospel.

We had our first kickoff meeting at Arc City this last Thursday. We had almost 100 kids there. They were just excited to hear about what's going on. It was great because they set it up to where they handed out these memory verse cards to all the kids. And so I was to divert them all to one door that they were to go in. And these kids were handing out memory verse cards to them. And a

couple of kids came by and they're like, what's this? I'm like, it's Fellowship of Christian Athletes. You should come join us. And they walked down to the kids down there and they're like, is this the Jesus thing? And they were like, yeah, it's the Jesus thing. Come on, let's go. And they got them to go in. They weren't even signed up for the club. It was great because people are

wanting something real right now. They're excited about reality. They're tired of social media filters. They're tired of AI stuff. They're tired of fake and they want something real. And Jesus is something real and people are excited about it. And I'm beyond excited about it. And you've got to catch the vision for this because God wants to move. And when God shows up, God does great things.

I watched a movie this last week and I've seen it lots of times before. But with what I'm doing right now, I thought, let's watch an inspirational movie about this. It's called Woodlawn. Have anybody seen the movie Woodlawn? Fantastic movie. I bawled like a baby through the entire thing. It's just great. And so the premise is that it's set in Alabama during the time of integration

in one particular high school in Alabama that had an African-American running back named Tony Nathan who went on to play for Alabama. And the racial tension was so great in this high school. There were constant fights. People always getting sent to the hospital. And this guy who was a missionary from FCA tried to come to the coach and say, hey, I want to talk to your team. And the coach is like, we don't have time for you

right now. And there was like a shooting or something at the school. And he said, is it time now? And he said, fine. You've got five minutes. Make it good. Which, by the way, when you're a pastor, basically that's kind of the message you get from a lot of people. Make it good, right? And so he goes in and he starts talking to this team. And the coach goes off to do his thing and

work in his office. Comes back an hour and a half later and the guy's still there talking. And he says, I thought I told him he had five minutes. He goes, I don't know what to tell you. We're all just listening. And it's been really good. He gives a salvation invitation like the whole team gets saved, right? The coach goes home that night, talks to his wife. And he says,

you're never going to believe what happened. And she said, what? He said, I let, I love it. I let an un-church. I let an un-church. I let an un-church. I let an un-church. I let an un-church. I let an un-church. I let an un-church. I let an un-church. I let an un-church. I let an un-church. I let an evangelist come in and talk to my team. And she said, well, what happened? He goes,

they got saved. She said, who got saved? He said, the whole team. And he walks away and she goes, is that good or bad? He goes, the whole team. And God moved in this high school. And at the very end, it's a movement that started moving throughout the entire city. At the very end, there's this scene where he is talking to a whole group of kids from two different high schools that are

getting ready to come together and play each other. And they're going to talk, and he says, this is what happens when God shows up. And friends, what we're seeing happening right now, this is what happens when God shows up. Are you going to be a part of it? Are you going to get on board with it? Are you going to catch the vision to build up this body and to reach out to

the community with the message of the gospel? Because God is showing up. Amen? Let's all stand.

And if you'd bow with me. Father, we come before you. And Lord, I thank you that you give us these wonderful examples in the book of Acts of how the early church lived. Lord, how the early church not only built up the church, Lord, but reached out to the world. Examples that we could emulate, examples that we can follow. And so, Lord, may our lives follow these examples. And Lord, I pray for every person

that's in here this morning. Lord, every person that's watching online. Lord, that the power of your Holy Spirit would move through this place. Father, that we would see a fresh filling, a fresh revival, a fresh fire move through every heart that's in here so that everybody in this room says, man, I want to reach out to the world around me with the gospel. And I want to see

God show up. And Lord, as we catch that vision, may your Holy Spirit move through this community, knowing that there's no magic, but Lord, there is power in the blood. And so, Lord, I just... I just pray for a fresh filling for each person that's here this morning, that your Holy Spirit would fall on this place, and that your Holy Spirit would fall on this community and on all the surrounding communities, Lord, for Winfield, for Burden, for Dexter, Lord, for Arc City here, that your Holy Spirit would fall on these communities, and that we would see a fresh revival of people coming to the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ, a fresh revival of a church that

truly loves the people that are around them. Lord, a fresh revival in each heart. We just pray these things, Father, in Jesus' name. Amen. Be blessed.
